Good lighting.

Strong lighting in darker areas of the home can make it more difficult to move around. There are lights you can use that detect the light level and turn on automatically. There is also lighting that can detect movement and turn on automatically, for example if you get up in the night to go to the toilet. Or you can use lights that have a remote control so you can turn them on easily before you start moving around. There are also sound activated lights that you can turn on by clapping your hands.  If you have a smart device like Google Home or Amazon Alexa you can use this to turn on lights and other equipment around your home.

Stools, steps, trolleys and rails.

Buying a stool or steps can keep you safe if you need to reach up high to access shelves or cabinets. Some steps include a side rail you can hold onto and some have wider treads to step on. A wheeled trolley may be useful if you need to move things from room to room. Adding a grab handle to a wall near to where you sit can also help you to get up, or a rail along a wall to help you walk along it. You may also find it useful to add a cushion or wedge to the sofa or chair to help you rise.
