Session Aims:
Trauma Skilled Level Training
Early & Relational Trauma: Trauma-Informed Support during Pregnancy, Birth and Early Parenting
This training is an introductory level training for anyone who works in a caring, support or clinical role where they frequently encounter women and birthing people and their families. It is not specialist trauma treatment, or specialist perinatal & infant mental health training.
It's aimed at people who work in any supporting profession who routinely encounter women and birthing people, and new parents (e.g. GPs, Health Visitors and nursery nurses, NICU/SCBU staff, Community Midwives, PWPs, sonography and radiography staff, pelvic health physios etc)
We hope you will leave with an introductory understanding of
- what early and relational trauma is
- how it can present in and complicate the perinatal period
- how care has the power to be trauma-inducing or trauma-reducing
- how we can think about adaptations to our practice to ensure trauma-reducing care
- how we can think about adaptations to our settings to ensure trauma-reducing care
- why self-care and stress in clinicians is key to the provision of trauma-reducing care
