Hillsborough College Nursery

Hillsborough College Nursery is an Outstanding setting as judged by OFSTED at the last inspection in October 2015.  The nursery provides childcare and education that enables children to reach their full potential and equip them to be questioning, confident individuals with a positive attitude for learning.

We recognise parents and carers as the first educator, and we will work in partnership with them

Children can bring their own packed lunch or a hot lunch is available at £1.90,  Snacks and drinks are provided for 20p per session.

We  have an Early Years Professional worker, who leads the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum supporting staff and children with this

Accredited with the Charter for Quality Award.

Also registered for the 2 year old Free Early Learning places, and 30 hours Extended free Education for eligible parents.

We are ESCAL accredited, have the HENRY award, and the achieved the Healthy Early Years Award in Feb 2020

Time details

Open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm for 51 weeks of the year - closed Bank Holidays and 1 week between Christmas and New Year

Eligibility criteria for your service and any priority groups

When a child is allocated a place in nursery the family are invited to visit the nursery and the child will be offered introductory /settling in visits   When children are ready to move into new rooms within the nursery, they will have several transition visits with their key person  The number of transition visits will be determined by the child’s level of self-confidence Parents are involved in the transition process and their views will be taken into consideration at the beginning of this process.

  • The nursery is a single storey building with easy access to all areas
  •  Wheelchair users will need assistance to operate the double handled security system to gain access to the main body of the nursery
  • The nursery has lots of visual aids including visual timetables, multilingual and Makaton signs and individual communication books for children with specific language difficulties.
  • We have equipment which is suitable or adaptable for children with physical disabilities. Our equipment is funded through our general budget.
  • The nursery does have a disabled toilet
  • Changing facilities are available
  • The nursery has a secure outside area which is fully fenced.
  • There are areas in the nursery which allow for quiet, safe and restful activities, these rooms are accessible to all children and staff will supervise these areas as appropriate
  • Children eat their meals on the premises. There is no separate dining hall. If children find this arrangement too noisy or stressful, we will find an alternative space for them to eat.
