MyLiferaft - Supporting Carers (family, friends, community)
The founder of MyLiferaft is Nicola Murgatroyd, her daughter, Faith had Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Together they faced an uphill struggle managing Faith’s different care needs. Not one to sit around grumbling about this, Nicola created MyLiferaft for the benefit of everyone caring or being cared for.
“My personal experiences gave me a first-hand insight into the problems and challenges faced by people who live with a long-term condition. I realised that gaps in shared information across health and social care existed. However, there are ways to make life easier for everyone whatever their circumstances, and that’s what we have created with MyLiferaft – a tool which helps you to let others know what you want.”
Using MyLiferaft lets you:
- Record health, well-being and care information saving the need for repetition.
- Create an Emergency Card with details of who to contact in an emergency, any conditions you have, medications, extra help you might need in an emergency.
- Keep track and be reminded of appointments and assessments.
- Share your care information with selected others who can support you.
- Create reports that can be shared with others to help them know you and your needs: e.g your likes, dislikes, life story, key people
- Access resources about caring, health conditions, equipment.
Who Can Use MyLiferaft?
- A loved one, maybe an older relative or spouse.
- Someone caring for a child with care needs.
- A professional carer needing to keep track of your client’s information and wishes.
- Someone in control of your own care plan but need to keep others in the loop.
- Someone who just wants to keep track of your general well-being – calendars and diaries.
By creating a MyLiferaft account, you will be taking the first step towards bringing together your health and social care information – reducing repetition and creating a consistent care plan you can share.

Additional information
The internet is wonderful thing, but we can all sometimes find looking for information daunting – a needle in a haystack! At MyLiferaft we want to help you find the needle and have created a list of resources that we hope you will find useful.
We have included links to external websites on a number of different topics ranging from:
- Government information on SEN and DLA* forms.
- Support charities and organisations including autism, asthma, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and downs syndrome.
- Companies specialising in holidays for those caring for someone with a disability.
* MyLiferaft gives you the ability to use the information in your child’s account to auto-populate the DLA form so that you do not have to spend the time completing the form by hand
Our aim is for MyLiferaft to become the "go to" solution for SEND professionals, carers, and those individuals with complex needs to have everything pertinent to them in a safe, secure and immediately accessible location, wherever you are.
Our key measure of success is for the individual to achieve their goals.
We want to make MyLiferaft financially viable for everyone. The demands on the population to use social care technology and manage their own health care are increasing.
