Supporting Tenants is a part of Roundabout Ltd a local youth housing charity, providing shelter, support and life skills to young people aged 16-24 years old. Supporting Tenants provides free support to young people living in their own home.

The service works across the whole of Sheffield and can support people living in council, housing association and private rented accommodation. Supporting Tenants works in partnership with young people to provide the level of support necessary for them to resettle into or help them maintain their own tenancies and prevent homelessness. The service provides short-term support, of six months with the focus on building resilience and empowering them to continue this once support has been withdrawn.

Supporting Tenants is made up of a scheme manager and nine tenancy support workers. The service is available Mon to Friday 8-7pm, with out of hours emergency advice available.

Supporting Tenants will take referrals through the Housing Supported Pathway but also accepts direct referrals from any agency working with the young person or they can self-refer.

Supporting Tenants can offer:
• Welfare benefits and income maximisation – support with claiming benefits and getting all the money they are entitled to
• Education, training and employment – support with getting a job or accessing a college course and training
• Health and mental wellbeing – support with dealing with any health related issues, including accessing specialist health services
• Grants, loans and furnishings – support with getting funds for furniture, as well as finding cheaper places to buy furniture
• Budgeting and money matters – support with managing money, meeting essential bills and sorting out debts
• Cultural and faith needs – finding local places of worship or meeting people with similar interests or values
• Children and parenting – support with finding parenting classes and support groups or accessing crèches, nurseries and schools
• Household skills – developing skills necessary to maintain a home from setting up gas and electricity accounts, to doing basic DIY
• Social skills and networks – support with finding local facilities and getting out and meeting new people
• Housing rights and responsibilities – support with understanding and complying with tenancy agreement and where to get advice about their rights
• Keeping Safe – safeguarding, dealing with ASB, domestic abuse or other forms of harassment.
• Advocacy/Confidence building – Supporting Tenants act as advocates where necessary and provide support with attending appointments with other agencies and services as part of increasing their confidence in dealing with situations around their tenancy.
