ShipShape Health and Wellbeing
Supporting Communities Across Nether Edge, Abbeydale, Highfield, Sharrow, Broomhall, & City Centre.
Language support available - Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic & Hindi.
ShipShape run free and low cost group and one-to-one sessions, at our welcoming Centre and in outreach venues in the city, to tackle health inequalities and support people's health and wellbeing. We work with a wide range of partner agencies.
Sessions include:
a one-to-one Health Trainer service
a Counselling Service
chronic pain support,
healthy cooking and eating sessions
exercise sessions
a carers' support group
family sessions on what to do when your child is unwell
diabetes management sessions
social sessions e.g. a men's group, Breakfast Club and a craft group.
We run health trainer drop-in sessions in various venues around the city. Trips and events at ShipShape are also popular e.g. special summer, Eid and Christmas events.
Our services:
Health Trainers
Looking for support and information to achieve your own health and wellbeing goals? Part of the the National Health Trainer Service, Shipshape can offer you one-to-one support with one of our 6 Health Trainers.
Health Trainers offer clients 6-8 free one-to-one sessions. Together Health Trainer and Client assess the client's health and wellbeing needs and goals. The Health Trainer can then offer appropriate support, advice and information to achieve them.
Health Trainers are available at ShipShape Centre and at various GP Surgeries for appointments, Together Women, Highfield Library and Moor Market. To access the Health Trainer service, you can self refer by contacting ShipShape directly or ask your GP or another agency to get in contact on your behalf.
Social Sessions
ShipShape runs numerous sessions which offer good company and chat, including some of the exercise and cooking sessions (see Exercise and Healthy Cooking and Eating ).
During the sessions we have occasional visits from health and wellbeing agencies for an informal information session.
Our main social sessions are the Breakfast Club on Wednesdays and our Men's Wellness Day Group and Craft Group on Fridays. All of them offer a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, chat and refreshments.
Craft Group has the bonus of something creative to do while you chat while at 'Men's Wellness Day Group you can enjoy a full healthy and tasty lunch together.

Exercise sessions
ShipShape runs a variety of exercise sessions. Currently running:
Walking Football. Tuesdays at 12.30pm. Meet at ShipShape for a chat and a cuppa and walk together to Umix Centre for start of football at 1.00pm. Alternatively meet at Umix Centre,17 Asline Road, Sheffield S2 4UJ. Cost: £1.00 unwaged, £2.00 waged. Drop in.
Ladies Chairobics. This lively, friendly session runs on Wednesdays 11.00am-12.00pm at ShipShape. Cost £1.00. Drop In.
Men's Chairobics. This vigorous and accessible session runs on Thursdays 10.45-11.45am at ISRAAC, 54 Cemetery Road, Sheffield S11 8FP.
Health cooking and eating
Our current friendly and accessible healthy cooking and eating sessions are currently postponed due to COVID. However our food worker Beth is producing cook and eat videos for you to follow along with at home. If you are in need of food support, please contact us, and see our foodbank page.
Carers' Support
ShipShape run a monthly Recharging Batteries Support Group, currently held every 1st Thursday of the month 11.00am-1.00pm.
Carers support at the group includes health checks, advice on the benefits and help carers are entitled to, plus pampering: massage, physical activity referrals and table tennis. All our services are open to carers who are most welcome to access the Centre for sessions or information. This session is Dementia friendly.
ShipShape supports people with diabetes in several ways:
One-to-one through the Health Trainer service. Free. At ShipShape and selected GP surgeries in the Sharrow, Broomhall, City Centre, Hackenthorpe, Birley, Sothall and Mosborough areas, together with various agencies where our Health Trainers do outreach work. Please enquire at ShipShape for an appointment.
Through the Ladies Health and Wellbeing Drop-In on Wednesdays 10.30-1.00pm at ShipShape. £1.00 for an exercise class - 11am-12pm.
Through our 2 x yearly Diabetes Education Programmes run at various venues including ShipShape and local GP surgeries.
Dementia Activities
We run a programme of Dementia activities: Dementia Programmes | Shipshape
including monthly cafes, men's sessions and activity packs.

If you need support or information on anything you are welcome to contact us for support. If we cannot help, we can signpost you in the right direction.
Broomhall Activities in partnership with ShipShape
ShipShape has a Community Link Worker based in Broomhall, Sheffield S10. She works with the Broomhall Centre and other local partners to provide a one-stop-shop central referral point to all wellbeing activities and services running locally. Saima Rehman is available at the Broomhall Centre on a Tuesday.
Therapeutic Gardening
Coming soon to Shipshape. We are developing a weekly gardening group for people to come and learn about growing flowers and vegetables as well as learning other outdoor craft skills. Contact us to register your interest, to offer to volunteer, or if you would like to partner with us.
