Homeless and Rootless at Christmas (HARC)
HARC has been providing a safe and warm day shelter for homeless, rootless and vulnerable people over the Christmas period since 1989, meaning that we celebrated our 35th anniversary in 2024! We provide a hot breakfast, lunch and a takeaway tea each day that the project is open. Guests are welcome to spend all day with us if they would like.
Food, a warm welcome, company, and something to do, all help our guests to get through what can be a cold and lonely time of year.
OUR VOLUNTEERS
We are grateful to our volunteers and wouldn’t be able to run the project without them.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life. The skills, enthusiasm and experience they bring are invaluable to us. We are exceptionally proud of our track record in volunteer retention and many of our volunteers have worked with us for a number of years.
OUR GUESTS
Our mission is to work with Sheffield’s most vulnerable adults who are homeless or without family and support by providing them with free meals, a warm environment, entertainment, company and essential clothing over the Christmas period.
On average we welcome 150 guests each day during the period that we are open. Guests are all individuals with their own specific needs and circumstances. Changing economic and social circumstances mean that demand for HARC’s services is increasing every year.
